Recommendations for growing success:
Soil: Use a well draining succulent or cacti soil. These will not need a new pot or soil for a while.
Watering: Water thoroughly once soil is 40-50% dry. These are babies so they require more frequent waterings than a more mature cactus. The #1 houseplant death is from how frequent you water, not how much water is provided. Make sure your pot has drainage holes allowing soil to dry out during growing season. Reduce watering during winter.
Lighting: Bright direct/indirect sunlight
